Overmitts, brightly

These are laughably large if you call them mittens, but I tell myself they are perfectly respectable as overmitts. I used up most of the leftovers from that saved-from-gauge-disaster hat a few years ago.  (I know it says in the follow-up post that I didn't have any more of the yarn and I wasn't going to buy any more, but the knitting store later talked me into considering a pom pom and so I bought another ball.  Never did make the pom pom.)  I'm really happy with the yarn set against dark purple, even more thrilling than it was on its own.

Have you considered felting mittens.......like you do the slippers (and that incredible hat)? Would they be more water resistant? warmer?
