| A much more pleasant surprise »
Look what greeted me when I opened the trash bin this morning.
I tried to kill it, but can only hope I maimed it. Most likely, it's perfectly healthy and just hiding out down in the trash bags, waiting to pounce. Or lay a million eggs.

The red hourglass on the abdomen is the identifier. I would call a pest control person and -- forgive me -- let them spray something to get rid of any potential infestation. I understand the bite is quite unpleasant. Ohio State has a good fact sheet at http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2061A.html. Apparently chemicals are only one part of the recommended response.

YIKES! A black widow. I would have never envisioned one in a trash can. I always picture them in a dusty basement, creaky attic or neglected barn. Please post follow-up info. Be careful.

I was going to suggest spraying as well. Follow Didi's advice. You do not want either of the kids getting bitten for sure. You or Mr. Right either, but you guys are bigger.
Good picture under pressure!
